What does it mean to be conscious? Why are we the way we are, and ‘be’ the way we do? What happens when ‘being’ pauses/ends at a perceptual level?

 

These are just some of the deeper questions that have remained a part of my curiosity for a long time.

 

Trying to find answers in Religion, History, and Philosophy, I stumbled upon Artificial Intelligence (AI) in 2021.

 

Working in AI and Web3 as a marketing professional since then has taught me the importance of attention in the pursuit of anything, especially our curiosity.

 

“You become what you give your attention to”, said Epictetus, a Greek philosopher. However, he also added, “If you yourself don’t choose what thoughts and images you expose yourself to, someone else will.” 

 

Unfortunately, many of us do not pay enough attention to where we direct our focus or realize when our attention is being hijacked.

 

While technology is the mirror that reflects human nature at a surface level; it has also augmented human nature in unfathomable ways. The average attention span of a human being now compares to that of a goldfish.

 

Today, emerging technologies like AI, Web3, cloud computing, robotics, etc. are on an exponential growth curve as they become a part of our everyday lives. We might not want to deaccelerate their benefits, but it remains paramount that we build responsibly.
